Aina Blankson, LP is Event Sponsor of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Industry Roundtable Series on Nigeria’s Entertainment Industry

Aina Blankson, LP is pleased to announce its partnership with the Lagos Court of Arbitration to Co-Sponsor this enlightening and progressive event, which was held on April 7, 2016, on Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

According to the recent rebasing of Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP), the entertainment industry (Nollywood, television, music, comedy and theatre) contributes to approximately NGN 9 trillion to the economy. As Nigeria continues to interact with existing and potential, as well as foreign and local, investors in relation to business expansion within the industry, its legal framework continues to be put to test, particularly when disputes arise.

A quick perusal of any of the major entertainment press reveals a number of pending court cases, arguments and disputes that have arisen during the course of the business. This invariably means that unless investors and contractors are assured of a quick, effective and competent dispute resolution system, they may continue to avoid financing or participating in entertainment projects.

Therefore, the Roundtable Series invited stakeholders within the industry to deliberate and tackle key sector-specific disputes and settlement challenges such as performance and breach of contract, debt recovery, piracy, labor issues, copyright and copyright infringement, trademarks, royalty collections and brand collaboration amongst others.
